Pittsburgh Music Scene, Part One

Here is a round-up of local artists making their way slowly to the top of the charts. Some of the artists may not be widely known… yet, but they are making their way, growing in popularity quickly. Now we did not cover artists such as Punchline, Rusted Root, The Clarks or punk rockers Anti-Flag, simply because they have been established for many years. The bands listed are rising stars in the area and represent Pittsburgh through their music.

Priceless Recordings
Priceless

Priceless records hails from Arlington when founder Hays pursued to begin a record company back in 2000. With currently three artist, Hays, Big C, and Joe Boots, they are helping to develop a strong hip hop scene in Pittsburgh. They are known for throwing the Hookahs and Hip Hop series at Hkan on the South Side, and their creative t-shirts showing Pittsburgh Pride.

Ceann
Ceann

Pittsburgh’s Irish population is rather large and to celebrate their heritage Ceann was formed. Ceann, an Irish rock band that can be found playing shows throughout Pittsburgh and neighboring states formed after former classmates at Pitt found interest in music and the passion for the Irish. Many references to Pittsburgh could be found in their music, while making creative YouTube videos.

Once Nothing

They may not be for everyone but with 37,000+ friends they surly have a fan base. They are among the popular in the metal genre which they call “blue collar metal.” They are big on touring the country but still spend time to do many shows here at home.

Wiz Khalifa
Wiz

Wiz Khalifa is the best known rapper from the city. Even though not born in Pittsburgh he has come to call Pittsburgh home after many years living here. Wiz’s involvement into the hip hop industry is helping to get Pittsburgh recognized as well as the Pittsburgh hip hop scene.

Pittsburgh Slim

Pittsburgh Slim grew up in Greenfield, but had to leave the city to get known for his hip hop abilities. He is now widely known and will forever represent the city with his stage name of Pittsburgh Slim. Slim’s summer hit “Girls kiss Girls” has become a huge internet success and lead him to signing with Jay Z.

The Morning Light

The Morning Light is a rising pop band that is similar to Fall Out Boy or All Time Low. The band has poppy catchy songs, and has just released their first EP, The Sounds of Love. The band is currently on tour promoting their EP.
