Pittsburgh Music Scene, Part Two

This is part two in a series (part 1 is here).

In the Wake of Giants

In the Wake of Giants is an all instrumental band that has created it’s own unique sound by incorporating ambient rock with hard guitar riffs backed with the beat of tribal drumming. The band has released two demos and plans to release their self-titled CD sometime in the near future. They are constantly invited to perform shows and have been called “one of the most innovative groups of young musicians in the Pittsburgh area.”

belie

Belie My Burial has grown a large fan base with their hardcore, metal sound. This may not be every Pittsburgher’s favorite genre, but for many local fans of metal they are among the best. Belie is constantly performing shows within the area and around the country. They plan to release a new CD with mastered tracks of several songs they have recorded.

jimmy b

Jimmy B is among the many local, emerging rappers. Recording at the Creative Arts Corner in Northview he has created great beats and great rap flows to accompany them. His enthusiasm to record and reach prominence in the rap scene has led him to create music videos and to promote himself relentlessly.

life in bed

Life in Bed is an amazing indy band with a pop sound. The band was recently featured in the City Paper, where they discussed their rising popularity in Japan. Locally, we can expect a large rise in popularity from Life in Bed, as they continue to play many local shows.

Nothing Unexpected

Nothing Unexpected is a band that has huge potential to explode in popularity nationally and even internationally. Pop-rock is soaring and Nothing Unexpected (paradoxically) brings their own, unexpected sound to the genre. Their songs explode with energy and are extremely catchy. Listen to “Familiar Faces.” You won’t be able to get it out of your head.

Soulharmonic

Soulharmonic have a fantastic sound that is reminiscent of the great alternative rock of the 90s. Check out is “Shadows of Sarah,” it’s catchy and deserves a spot in national radio. You can find Soulharmonic playing live around the city, especially during Liquid Sundays at Club Cafe.

Victory Lane

Victory Lane has a unique power-pop sound different from most bands of the genre. They are constantly getting more exposure from touring and sharing the stage with some of the most popular bands of pop-rock. The song “Decisions” incorporates a different melody and style and really expresses the creativity that Victory Lane brings.
