Big Telescope Has Pittsburgh Connection
What does a telescope high atop an Andes mountain have to do with Pittsburgh? According to this Tribune Review piece, quite a bit. Carnegie Mellon is the latest project sponsor in a list that includes University of Pittsburgh, Penn State, University of Pennsylvania, and Google (the article mentions their Pittsburgh office). The massive amount of data from the telescope will be worked on here, by astronomers, physicists, and computer scientists at Pitt and CMU.
